Unless you’ve been under one seriously heavy and sound proof rock, you already know that last night was one of the biggest, brightest and star-studded events of the year…..FASHION’S NIGHT OUT!! Spanning all across the globe, FNO is the brainchild of fashion goddess and Vogue editrix Anna Wintour and is designed to get people out into the streets shopping and celebrating all things fashion!
Last night, along with friends Dani and Khalia, I decided to join fashion blogger extraordinaire Christina S. Brown from the über cute blog LoveBrownSugar on her FNO meetup and I’m so glad I did. We covered everything from Soho to the Meatpacking District with fashionable ease. First up was Soho where performances from Chris Brown & Pharrell, life-size Ken Dolls and free drinks kept the streets packed! After watching Chris Breezy and Skateboard P do their thing near the Marc Jacobs store, we headed over to Philip Lim just in time to see the always lovely Tracee Ellis Ross get her shop on and take photos with fans. We even caught a blurry glimpse of Kanye West as he stopped to drive the swelling crowd insane before heading to a private event. After that, Ralph Lauren was the place to be if you wanted to catch the amazingly talented Janelle Monae do what she does best for the likes of Anna Wintour, Halle Berry, Andre Leon Talley, Jessica Alba and more! Just the sight of Janelle Monae in the windows had traffic at a near standstill and the sidewalks packed to capacity, but it was definitely worth it.
After having our fill of Soho, we trekked on over to the trendy Meatpacking District for the fabulous Diane von Furstenberg event. The line stretched the entire block, but thanks to Christina, who happens to be friends with a DVF publicist, we skipped the commoner line and headed straight in. Inside champagne was overflowing and the crowd read like a “Who’s Who” of fashion with guests including Diane von Furstenberg herself and Olivia Palermo of MTV’s The City. From there we made our last (and my favorite!) stop of the night…Tory Burch!!
People, Tory Burch was ROCKING last night! Thanks to the outstanding DJ Cassidy, Tory Burch kept shoppers on their feet until the very end shopping, drinking, snacking on Shake Shack burgers and dancing the night away in style! The store was literally packed from wall to wall and even with the crowds Tory Burch herself managed to take pictures with a few of New York’s finest and get celebs like Kerry Washington and Russell Simmons to mingle with the crowd. Even Anna Wintour and Estelle were seen braving the crowds to get in on the Tory Burch action.
After awhile the crowd became too much and we retreated to some stairs across the street where the fashion show didn’t stop. We saw some fashion dos and definite fashion don’ts walk by and even heard a poem from a local “ghetto prophet.” Overall Fashion’s Night Out 2010 was a phenomenal success! That’s saying a lot coming from a girl who is as clueless about fashion as Anne Hathaway’s character in The Devil Wears Prada. In the end, we came, we shopped, we drank tons of free wine and went home with sore feet….all in the name of fashion!
Special thanks to Christina and crew for the fab meetup 🙂 See you next year!!
